JITHU PAUL JACOB, joined as Assistant Professor in the Research Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture in June 2018. He completed PhD in the Department of Marine Science, CUSAT in 2019. He guides students of both UG and PG in their academic projects.

Dynamic and versatile research scientist with extensive detailed research and experimental experiences. Holds a broad set of analytical and technical skills and proven history of collaboration with cross-functional teams to achieve continuous improvement and far-reaching objectives.

Expertise in many areas of research that utilize in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro skills and abilities. Pragmatic strategies able to focus on key issues and results to meet organizational priorities and make necessary critical decisions to see them through. Proven ability to manage challenging research schedules while working in complex and highly -demanding environments.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Molecular Biology : Oligonucleotide design, polymerase chain reaction, restriction digestion, macromolecule isolation, gel-electrophoresis and DNA analysis, gel extraction and purification, ligation, chemical transformation, nucleic acid quantitation via spectrophotometry

Microbiology : media preparation and sterlization, autoclaving, preparation of antibiotic agar plates, inoculating, streak plate techniques, culturing of micro -organisms, serila diluters.

Biochemistry : Chromatography (Paper, Thin layer, Molecular sieving), High Performance liquid chromatography, Gas chromatography, GC-MS, Haemocytometer, Prothrombin analyser, ELISA.  

International Aquiantances

National Prawn Company, KSA has acquired me as general pathologist in shrimp diagnosis and worked there for a period of one and half year. PCR Detection of Virus analysis was performed for diagnosis and Histopathological examinations of tissue and observations were done in NPC laboratory.

Univeristy of Mahidol,Thailand, provide me a half month International Course on Biology and Pathology of Shrimp in advanced PCR and LAMP-LFD Techniques for virus diagnosis.

National acquaintances

Assistant Professor, Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, St. Albert’s College (autonomous) till date working.

Marine Products Development of India, undertaking government of India, for improving Ornamental Fishery Sector acquired me as a Technical Consultant and worked there for one and half year.

Research Experience in Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) for 8 years and acquired PhD in Marine Science with specialization in Biochemical Instrumentation Techniques and Lipid Profiling.

Worked as Biochemist in Matha Hospital, Thellakom, Kerala.
